WILTON, Iowa -- The mayor of Wilton has stepped down, less than two weeks after he was arrested on drug charges.

The City Council accepted Dick Summy's resignation on Monday night. He was charged last month in Polk County with conspiracy to deliver marijuana. Summy, who was elected in November 2003, was not at the meeting. His arrest came after a year-long state investigation.

Officials said he sold pounds of pot in eastern and central Iowa, and was paid $800 by an informant at a Des Moines bar in March. His next court appearance is set for Nov. 9.

A judge has ordered that he undergo a substance abuse evaluation.
