UFC officials report that Yancy Medeiros was suspended for testing positive for marijuana immediately following his knockout victory over Yves Edwards during a recent UFC Fight Night event.

Unfortunately, the failed drug screen mandated that Medeiros serve a 90-day suspension retroactive to the night of the fight, which took place during a November 6 bout at the Fort Campbell military base in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Consequently, fight officials were forced to overturn the 26-year-old lightweight’s win over Edwards and officially deem the outcome a “no contest.”

“UFC lightweight Yancy Medeiros tested positive for marijuana metabolites following his bout against Yves Edwards at UFC Fight for the Troops 3 in Fort Campbell, Ky., on Nov. 6, 2013,” according to a UFC press release. “He was informed that his positive test violated the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy and Promotional Agreement with Zuffa, LLC. He agreed to and served a 90-day suspension retroactive to the event, and must pass a drug test before receiving clearance to compete again. The outcome of his bout against Edwards was changed to a no-contest.”

With the suspension behind him, Medeiros is reportedly still scheduled to fight Joe Ellenberger in the upcoming UFC 172 in April. That is, as long as he can manage to keep from getting pinched for smoking weed.

Perhaps, the time has come for Medeiros to employ the use of Whizzinator, or any number of available methods for passing a drug test.
