The DEA raided three medical marijuana dispensaries in San Diego Wednesday. According to reports the dispensaries – California’s Best Meds on University Ave., San Diego Wellness on Garnet Ave., and Golden West also on University – were among the 16 dispensaries that received letters from California’s US Attorneys in early October threatening criminal prosecution if they didn’t “discontinue the sale and/or distribution of marijuana” in 45 days.
Federal agents served search warrants at the three facilities beginning around 4pm Wednesday. Reports indicate the marijuana and equipment were confiscated and at least one arrest was made. More raids are expected in the San Diego area.
Medical marijuana is legal in California but federal law trumps state law. In addition, California’s US Attorneys maintain “for-profit, commercial marijuana operations are illegal not only under federal law, but also under California law.”
