Stephen Colbert shared his mock indignation over a New York Times article that took aim at presidential candidate Mitt Romney by interviewing his neighbors in La Jolla, California. As Colbert raked the Times over the coals for what he “perceived” to be unfair treatment, he arrived at a particular quote from the article:

“A young man in town recalled that Mr. Romney confronted him as he smoked marijuana and drank on the beach last summer, demanding that he stop.”

While the Times article appeared to use this incident to paint Romney as “officer buzzkill,” Colbert had a different take:

“That guy should be grateful. A Mormon Republican running for president sees you smoking weed and doesn’t narc you out to the cops who are guarding him? I would say that makes Mitt Romney hella chill. I don’t know – why hasn’t he been endorsed by HIGH TIMES?”

For the record, HIGH TIMES will not be endorsing Mitt. Nonetheless, we do appreciate the fact that the former Massachusetts gov decided against narcing out a harmless pothead.
