A Maryland woman believes a local Sonic may have gone one toke over the line when the burger joint served her an order of fries topped with marijuana.

Over the weekend, Carla McFarland and her youthful gang of progeny paid a visit to a nearby Sonic drive-In. McFarland distributed kids meals before reaching into the bag for her order of fries. It was then that she noticed an employee had included an unusual condiment with her order: a dime bag of pot.

“I just kind of sat there in my car in shock,” McFarland told The Frederick News-Post. “I kept thinking, what if my kids had eaten it?”

Rather than twisting up a fat one, McFarland decided to whip out her trusty cell phone and put in a call to the store manager. Unfortunately, that led to the involvement of local police and soon, every employee on the clock was a suspect in the assembly of the first-ever Sonic Chronic Meal.

It did not take long for authorities to persuade the culprit to rat himself out, which store owner, John Louderback says led to the employee’s immediate termination. The employee told investigators that he accidentally dropped the bag of marijuana in McFarland’s food, Louderback told reporters. And although the incident is still under investigation, "As this time, we believe that concludes the issue,” he said.

McFarland says that people found the episode humorous simply because it involved weed and not a dangerous drug. “I think that's why everyone thinks it's so funny, because it's marijuana and it's going to be legalized,” she said. “It could have been crack. It could have been cocaine in that little baggie.”

Interestingly, this is not the first time a restaurant has been in the news for serving reefer with a customer’s food. Earlier this year, HIGH TIMES reported two separate incidents in which both a Wendy’s and a McDonald’s sold customers burgers topped with marijuana.
