Jeff Mizanskey has been in prison for 20 years and has no possibility of parole. His crime? Three non-violent marijuana-related offenses -- putting him right in the cross hairs of Missouri's "three-strikes" sentencing policy. The final bust found Mizanskey only driving his friend who sold marijuana to a deal which turned out to be a sting operation. His friend was released from prison many years ago while the less-culpable Jeff continues to serve an unjust sentence because of a ridiculous law.
His son Chris explains: "My dad is, and always has been, a good man. He taught my brother and I all about construction and a good work ethic. He has never been violent and he is a model prisoner. And over the 20 years he has been in that little cell, he has watched as violent criminals, rapists, and murderers have 'paid their debts' and left -- sometimes just to return a few months later."
Jeff has been in jail for 20 years while taxpayers from the state of Missouri pay roughly $22,000 a year to keep him incarcerated. The only person who is able to get Mr. Mizanskey out of jail at this point would be Governor Jay Nixon.
