Jesse Zunti, a 24-year-old Windsor, Ontario man, faces four years behind bars after being arrested Monday morning for allegedly attempting to smuggle over eight pounds of pot from Canada to the US… by scuba diving in the St. Clair River in Marine City, Michigan.
US Border agents were waiting for Zunti when he exited the water around 1 am Monday morning after the scuba smuggler was spotted by a Marine City resident and surveillance cameras from a nearby Air National Guard base.
While Zunti was not in possession of marijuana at the time of his arrest, authorities eventually located a watertight PVC pipe-like container tied to a seawall ladder. Inside the container, agents discovered the eight pounds of pot worth an estimated $40,000.
Zunti was charged with delivering/manufacturing marijuana and his bond was set at $100,000. He is being held at the St. Clair County Intervention and Detention Center where he awaits his next hearing on September 4.
