Pull out that nug of weed you've got lying around and sit down with us for a minute. Get serious for a second...seriously high of course. Now take a look at this:
Doesn't that make you hungry? Aren't you so hungry that you would do some nasty ass things to get a piece of that?
Exactly what we thought...
But what is it that makes you get the munchies after smoking? What is that musk-like aroma that drives you to ravage those pic-a-nic baskets you Yogi Bear-ish toking fiends?
Well, according to new scientific research, that is your olfactory receptors at differing stages of arousal (if you will) due to their interactions with both exogenous and endocannabinoids.
"During the study [Giovanni Marsicano] and colleagues at Neurocentre Magendie in Bordeaux, France, discovered that it’s the presence of these natural cannabinoids in the human nose, and their activation, which increases the amount of food eaten. They also discovered that the receptors’ activation by external cannabinoids, such as those found in marijuana or hashish, can further up the ante of appetite."
So why we get the munchies? Because we're smelling that food from a mile away like a dog smelling piss. We can't get enough of it.
