Pot plants are sprouting up in Göttingen, a German college town. A group called “A Few Autonomous Flower Children” planted pounds of pot seeds throughout the city as a protest against Germany’s “restrictive drug policies.”
The Flower Children released a statement explaining the protest as a “sign against the demonization of cannabis … We can’t set eyes on this useful and beautiful plant because it’s absolutely forbidden in Germany to grow it.”
The group began sowing the seeds in early June and now the plants are beginning to crop up all around Göttingen – even in front of the police station.
Authorities are on the lookout for pot plants and have orders to destroy them on sight. Additionally, cops are investigating the “violation of narcotics laws.” According to a spokesperson, “This action is a big deal, people really put effort into it.”
The Flower Children maintain that it’s incomprehensible that “cannabis, unlike alcohol, cannot be legally purchased.”
