TMZ is reporting the heroin that appears to have killed Phillip Seymour Hoffman yesterday may have been a strain laced with fentanyl, which is being blamed for 46 deaths on the East Coast during the month of January.
The drug -- sometimes called "Theraflu," "Bud Ice" and "24K," -- contains fentanyl, an extremely potent drug prescribed to terminal cancer patients. The strain is 100 times more powerful than morphine and has the ability to shut down the respiratory system.
A word to the wise, people: please be careful what you put in your veins. Even better: Stick to the green.
