For years, you've known him as a television talk show host. But Montel Williams is back at the Capitol today once again to fight for a cause that's very close to his heart -- medical marijuana.
Williams was in Albany last year around this time. Back in 1999, Williams went public with his very painful battle against multiple sclerosis. He's been taking pills everyday to fight the pain, but he said the marijuana prescribed to him by a California doctor works the best.
Senator Vincent Leibell of Dutchess County is sponsoring the bill. He said doctors should be allowed to prescribe marijuana to patients under very restrictive circumstances.
He said, "Many people with forms of cancer and forms of MS find that marijuana can give them relief from pain and symptoms of their diseases."
Leibell said he's hopeful the bill will pass this year.
