Colorado’s Denver County Fair is going up in smoke.

According to a report from the Associated Press, organizers with the 2014 Denver County Fair intend to welcome in the marijuana community during this year’s events, holding a multitude of weed-related contests that will be judged for prizes.

However, organizers are quick to point out that marijuana will not be permitted at the fairgrounds. Instead, stoners will have an opportunity to display their ingenuity at an off-site location, where judges will test the aptitude of the county’s high society in nine competitions ranging from best homemade bong to best roach clip.

In addition to highlighting a veritable menagerie of stoner parlor tricks, judges will also select their favorites in the categories of marijuana-infused food, hemp clothing and plant quality. Organizers say they will not review plants in terms of flavor and potency, because the HIGH TIME Cannabis Cup already rules that sector of the stoner class – our words, not theirs.

Winners will receive a twenty-dollar cash prize, as well as a blue ribbon. Organizers say they wanted to issue green ribbons to winners of the cannabis-themed contests, but the green ribbon is already traditionally given to the winner of “environmentally conscious methods.”

All of the entries will be on display in what organizers have deemed the “Pot Pavilion,” which will be open to individuals 21 and over. There, they will hang out alongside the competitive boozehounds; those duking it out for a blue ribbon for best homemade beer, wine and spirits.

It is apparent, however, that this stoner sideshow is not being organized by an honest representation of the high lifestyle. Reports speculate that in addition to a competition to see who can roll the fastest joint, there will also be a series of stereotype-based contests, including a Doritos eating competition.

Organizers say they opted for a no weed policy in the Pot Pavilion out of respect for the families and kids attending the fair. We wonder if a biergarten will be close by.
