“I’m like hold up, who you smacking on?/ I’m only trying to eat what you snacking on.” - Jay Z

As more details come out about the alleged extortion plot of Chauncy Mahan, who is trying to sell Jay Z back his master recordings from albums like Volume 3 and Dynasty, it seems like a case of carelessness with a dose of greed from an opportunist. Jay's people reportedly assumed the masters -- dating back to 2002 and even into the '90s -- were lost. But alas, producer Chauncy Mahan, who had worked with Jay during that time, had actually snagged them and was "storing" them for him because he thought Jay Z "was a stupid kid smoking blunts" all day and would lose them. Now of course he's trying to get money from Roc Nation as a continuing "storage fee" to the tune of 100k at the very least.

Roc Nation and Jay Z did what any now-legitimate businessmen would do...they called the cops and ran a sting operation on that mofo to get the recordings back (which also allegedly sound like shit). Right now the cops are in possession of the tapes until a judge can rule on the ownership.

As for Jay's blunt-smoking days, maybe it's a good thing he stopped smoking if he was losing all of his masters...
