Counterculture icon Steve Hager returns as editor-in-chief of HIGH TIMES Magazine – for the third time!

Steve Hager, the longest-standing editor in the magazine’s 32 year history, has been tapped by HIGH TIMES’ management to lead the legendary publication into the 21st Century. Accordingly, Hager’s first act back at the helm was to launch an online multi-media podcast network (a POTCAST!) that is currently available for free download at

“I’m very happy to be back in my favorite job again,” says Hager. “I look forward to building the magazine’s circulation as well as launching HIGH TIMES into new media formats like iTunes.”

Steve Hager first became HIGH TIMES’ head honcho in 1988, the same year he founded the immensely popular Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam. – the Academy Awards of marijuana. In 1997 he left his post as editor to concentrate on creating new events for HIGH TIMES only to return to the top job one year later.

In 2004 Hager was replaced as the magazine completely changed its editorial direction but the readers rebelled and the magazine quickly returned to it’s roots. “Today, HIGH TIMES is the best-selling marijuana magazine in the world,” said publisher Mary McEvoy, “and Steve Hager is the best person in the world to lead such a unique publication.”

Hager is the author of several books, including "The Octopus Conspiracy" (Trine Day), and producer/director of several feature-length documentaries, including "The Cannabis Cup" (Koch Entertainment). He most recently co-wrote the narration for "AKA Tommy Chong," a highly acclaimed documentary produced and directed by Josh Gilbert.
