Heidi Fleiss, the “Hollywood Madam,” was caught with nearly 400 pot plants last week in Las Vegas. Fleiss was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell after she told police she was cultivating 392 plants. Fleiss informed the officers of her intention to sell the crop to a Vegas cooperative.
The incident occurred on August 7 after a Nye County sheriff arrived at Fleiss's home with arrest warrants for a different woman. The sheriff didn't find the wanted woman, but did discover the pot growing in the backyard. Officers questioned Fleiss and then confiscated 158 plants growing in her backyard and another 234 in a separate residence.
The Celebrity Rehab participant allegedly told officers she was growing the pot without a caregiver's license - which must be obtained through the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services - in order to sell the medicinal cannabis to a nearby medical pot cooperative.
Fleiss, now 47, shot to infamy in the early 1990s when she became the most famous “madam” in America, making “only” $10,000 on her worst nights providing female companionship for LA's rich, powerful, and famous.
Fleiss was not arrested for the dual pot gardens because the Nye County Sheriffs Department confirmed she was fully cooperative and consented to a search of the properties - though the threat of arrest should not prevent a citizen from exercising his/her constitutional rights by requesting that police obtain a search warrant before any searches of private property.
