Jerry Garcia would have turned 71-years-old today, August 1, 2013. The Grateful Dead singer and lead guitar player passed away in August 1995.

Jerry was born Jerome John Garcia in San Francisco, California on August 1, 1942. He is widely considered one of the most influential musicians to have ever lived.

In addition to his musical contributions, Jerry had a massive influence on the psychedelic culture of the 1960s as he and his band mates turned people on to LSD through Acid Test parties with Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters.

Jerry and the Grateful Dead also contributed to marijuana culture by helping to spread cannabis genetics across the world as different strains made their way into new territory through Dead tour.

So stop what you’re doing and smoke a bowl for Jerry today.
