Paul Chabot, a former drug czar advisor for the Clinton and Bush administrations delivered one of the all-time great reefer madness moments when he compared pot to… child pornography.
Chabot made the bizarre comparison while talking to HuffPost Washington Bureau Chief Ryan Grim. When Chabot argued that no one is getting busted for pot anymore and we need to keep marijuana illegal, Grim asked him to explain the logic behind what seemed to be an utterly illogical statement.
Why keep marijuana illegal, Grim asked. To which Chabot responded, “Why do we keep heroin, LSD, prostitution, child pornography illegal?”
Chabot continued his harangue: “Drugs destroy lives … We have more addicts in this country today than we have had in a long time. It’s a shame, when there are so many issues in the community that we could be working on, there’s organizations of people who are not just trying to legalize marijuana but all drugs across the board.”
Just when you start to think that reason might prevail in the marijuana law reform discourse the Paul Chabots of the world rear their ignorant heads.
