Whoa, baby! A Florida dad-to-be missed the birth of his child last week, after a nurse working on the infant unit caught him smoking marijuana in the delivery room and snitched him out to the cops.

According to reports, 28-year-old David Bastin brought his pregnant girlfriend to the Martin Memorial Medical Center on February 4th, so she could give birth to the couple’s new baby.

Nervous about the responsibilities associated with becoming a new father, Bastin reportedly sought the support of his trusty vaporizer and began smoking some weed in the room where his girlfriend was laboriously attempting to bring a child into the world.

Unfortunately, a nurse working on the infant wing, one that had apparently been to her fair share of rock concerts, caught a whiff of the Lamaze-coach smoke circle and immediately placed a call to the local authorities.

When police arrived, they took Bastin down to the hospital lobby to question him about his alleged smoking in the “it’s a boy” room. When officers asked the man to relinquish his reefer, “The defendant reached in his right pocket and handed Officer Cernuto a black oblong device that the defendant called a vaporizer,” but when it was opened raw cannabis was found inside, according to the arrest report.

Unsympathetic to the fact that Bastin was just a short time away from welcoming the arrival of his new son or daughter, officers placed him under arrest, charging him with marijuana possession under 20 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bastin was reportedly held on a $1,500 bond and released from jail the following day. Rumor has it that dad and his new baby were released into society around the same time.
