It doesn’t matter how wealthy you are when you’re in prison for drugs. Michael Douglas’s son Cameron, currently serving 10 years for heroin possession and conspiracy to distribute narcotics, was kept in solitary confinement for nearly two years after failing a drug test behind bars.
Michael Douglas used his Sunday night Emmy win for Outstanding Lead Actor in Behind the Candelabra to give a shout-out to Cameron from the stage, saying of his 35-year-old son, “I'm hoping I'll be able to -- [they'll] allow me to see him soon." He told US Magazine that Cameron has been refused visitors for two years.
Douglas and his ex-wife Diandra De Morrell Douglas went through a nasty public divorce, but they are in total agreement about Cameron’s brutal treatment in prison. Diandra says that when Cameron was released from solitary, his skin burned in daylight from being kept in the hole for so long, and that his hair is falling out.
Prison officials declined to comment on Cameron’s terms of incarceration; however, administrators are allowed to cancel visiting privileges as punishment for prisoners. It seems like Cameron Douglas is being punished pretty hard.
