During a live segment of the Anderson Cooper 360 series “Gone to Pot,” CNN reporter Randi Kaye claimed on-air to have a “contact high” after riding in a limo with enthusiastic tokers as part of a Colorado cannabis tour.
Kaye and the tour group visited several dispensaries, picking up pot on one stop after another. And while the participants got high, Kaye asked them about the benefits of cannabis and captured their delight in being able to legally indulge.
After the pre-taped report ended, Kaye appeared for a live wrap-up and Cooper inquired: “So, Randi, I gotta ask, how extensive was your research in the back of that limo?”
Kaye answered: “You know, Anderson, it was top-notch. We did very extensive research, I have to tell you. My brain was a little fuzzy by the time I got out of there.”
To which Cooper replied: “Really?”
Kaye disclosed: “Oh yeah, I wasn’t thinking right, I couldn’t remember even some of the questions that I wanted to ask in the interview, which has never happened to me when I’m reporting in the field. And I found things to be really funny, much funnier than I normally do, so I think we got a little bit of a contact high there.”
Cooper responded: “But it was just a contact high, I just want to make that clear, is that correct?”
Kaye confirmed it was only a contact high, attributing it to all the smoke from the joints the tour group puffed in the back of the limo. Cooper sarcastically advised her “You might want to wash your clothes before going through security at the airport.”
