Chris Perez, Cleveland Indians two-time all star was convicted today for misdemeanor drug abuse stemming for an arrest regarding marijuana shipped to his home in the family dog's name.
Postal inspectors tipped off the law about suspicious packages mailed to the home. The post office says that Perez's wife accepted two of the packages, which held a third-pound of pot. Authorities say Melanie Perez, whose maiden name is Baum, told the undercover officer delivering the packages that they were intended for her dog, named Brody. The package was addressed to Brody Baum.
Under the drug agreement between Major League Baseball and its players' association, marijuana offenses generally result with the player undergoing a treatment program rather than discipline.
Perez was fined $250 at the Rocky River Municipal Court and placed on probation for one year.
