Bloomberg reports: Canada will allow pharmacies to dispense marijuana to approved patients this year, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported, without citing the source of its information. The patients won't require a prescription from their doctor, the CBC said. The plan, which is based on a Dutch program, will be introduced in British Columbia, the CBC said. Some 78 Canadians are already allowed to use cannabis supplied by the government. The 30-gram (1 ounce) bags are sent directly to them or their doctors, the news agency said on its Web site. Canada is also planning to decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana to let police focus on more serious crimes. Drug offences represented almost one in 10 Canadian court cases in 2001 and 2002, according to Statistics Canada, a federal data-gathering agency.
