Boulder, Colorado residents will have to wait until sometime in March to purchase recreational cannabis from storefronts. Late Tuesday night the Boulder City Council decided to delay the date that existing medical pot dispensaries can apply for retail pot licenses from January 2 to March 1, 2014.

Pushing back the application date two months will allow Boulder's shorthanded licensing office more time to process retail pot applications and oversee the transition from strictly medical to recreational sales.

The City Council also voted to ease regulations for potential marijuana business owners – such as lifting a 1,000-plant limit on cultivation operations.

The Council will vote to officially adopt these proposals November 12.
