A report commissioned by Bermuda’s government recommends the immediate decriminalization of small amounts of pot, along with the outright legalization of medical marijuana.
Bermuda’s National Security Minister Michael Dunkley presented the Cannabis Reform Collaborative’s findings to the National Assembly last week.
The CRC report concluded that marijuana prohibition is a failure and that the courts are overwhelmed with non-violent pot cases that disproportionately involve non-white and immigrant populations.
The report recommends civil penalties for minor pot offenses as well setting the age of legal cannabis usage at 21. The report also calls for access to medical pot via prescription to be enabled immediately until proper legislation is passed and endorses personal cultivation of a limited number of plants.
