Q. When is the Cannabis Cup?
A. The 17 Annual High Times Cannabis Cup is being held from November 21st to the 25th in 2004.
Q. Where is the Cannabis Cup being held?
A. The Cup is in Amsterdam in the country of Holland (Netherlands).
Q. In the past, I bought a tour package which included airfare and hotel as well as a Judges Pass. Can I do this again?
A. This year, we are only selling the Judges Passes. Judges should book their own flights and hotel to suit their needs and budget.
Q. Who is being inducted into the Counterculture Hall of Fame this year?
A. Stephen Gaskin is being inducted this year. Stephen Gaskin is the founder of The Farm in Summertown, TN, the most successful counterculture community in America. In 1980, Gaskin was awarded the Right Livelihood Award in Switzerland, the alternative Nobel Prize. He was a principle figure in the Summer of Love counterculture explosion in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury in 1966, and was the source for the Grateful Dead song: "St. Stephen."
Q. Where should I stay? Which airline should I fly?
A. This depends on your budget. Amsterdam has a wide variety of lodging from the very expensive (Tulip, American, Marriott etc.) to very reasonably priced hostels (less than $30 per night). Many airlines fly to Amsterdam with the most frequent flights being offered by Northwest/KLM. Check an airline site like Expedia, Cheaptickets, or Travelocity for deals.
Q.Can my band play the Cannabis Cup this year?
A. Only a handful of bands appear at the Cup each year compared with the requests we receive. If your band wants to play the Cup you must submit a CD or DVD. Bands must be willing to pay their own airfare, hotel and expenses. If your band is one of the lucky few selected, each member will receive a voting laminant. Q. Do I have to arrive on the 21st to partcipate?
A. No, you can come sooner or later and still participate fully in the event. Program guides and laminants are available a few days before the Opening Ceremonies on the 21st. On the 21st, three finalists are announced for the Cannabis Cup competition. and those three coffeeshops will likely be swarmed until the end of the event.
Q. What hotels are close to the event?
A. The event is at the Melkweg, which is located in the Leidesplein neighborhood. Below are some hotels located nearby. However, judges may wish to book a hotel closer to Central Station, the Red Light District or to Dam Square, depending on one's personal preferences. It is easy to get around town on a bicycle or using the city tram service.
